CNN has once again released a list of the most delicious culinary delights from around the world. This time, the focus is on rice dishes , a source of carbohydrates that is not only popular among Asians but also in Europe and the Americas. In 2011 and 2017, CNN Travel conducted a global reader’s poll to find the world’s most delicious foods. Out of 50 dishes from around the globe, Indonesia achieved a spectacular victory. Rendang, the legendary slow-cooked beef dish from West Sumatra, was crowned as the number one best food in the world.
Two Indonesian culinary icons, rendang and fried rice, were crowned the number one and number two most delicious foods in the world by CNN. The Ministry of Tourism is proud of this achievement.
“Rendang and fried rice are two of five culinary delights that the Ministry of Tourism is promoting as Indonesian culinary icons, along with soto, sate, and gado-gado,” said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya in a written statement on Saturday (July 15, 2017).
Previously, in 2011, the West Sumatran dish was also ranked number one as the most delicious food in the world.
“This has raised the Indonesian culinary brand , and of course Indonesian tourism,” said Arief.
In 2017, rendang and fried rice again became favorite foods for many readers of the world news site CNN.
“Rendang’s reputation will improve the image of our culinary and tourism. Because when culinary is ready to be promoted and capitalized, it is already included in tourism. While it is still in the incubation process, it is still under Bekraf,” he said.
Arief said that culinary has become an important part of tourism.
“The more our food is known, the more people will want to come to our country. This is our nation’s cultural diplomacy,” said Arief Jakarta, CNN Indonesia.
